Incredible golf experience at Wood Wind Golf Club

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I had a chance to play Wood Wind Golf Club in Westfield the other day. The course used to be called Bent Tree (just last year) and before that Hanging Tree. After obtaining the property in late 2007, the home builder Estridge, intended to change more than just the name. I played the course last year and thought it was beautiful then. But the course I played the other day was incredible.

Here is a list of changes that Estridge made…

  • New Parking Lot west of the Clubhouse
  • New extensive landscaping around the entire premises of the Clubhouse and Pavilion
  • New entrance and exit design plan to and from the Club
  • Pavilion totally renovated to accommodate up to 175 people for a business meeting, reception or golf outing group
  • Newly renovated Clubhouse with beautiful dining area and pro shop
  • New 5,000 square foot putting green that sits adjacent to the south side of the Clubhouse
  • 64 brand new Club Car golf cars
  • Kelties teamed with Wood Wind Golf Club to provide all food and beverage for the Club
  • Doc O’Neal (General Manager) hired to organize all golf operations and details of Wood Wind Golf Club
  • Josh Harvey hired as Grounds/Course Superintendent in November of 2007. Golf course is in excellent condition!
  • Scott Heger, Class A Golf Professional, hired in November of 2007 as head golf professional

The last two points are what made the biggest difference for me. The tee boxes, fairways, hazards and greens are immaculate. The greens alone at Wood Wind now hold a PGA rating and are a lot of fun to play. They even change the way they handle tee times. Our group teed off at 8:48am. Apparently that’s the last tee time for the morning until 11am. So there weren’t any golfers behind us for the entire front nine. Then we lucked out and the foursome ahead of us quit after nine holes. We were totally alone on the back nine. It was the quietest round of golf I have ever played. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. And I have to give props to the refreshment cart girl Katie for “keeping them coming”!

The next time you’re planning an outing I highly recommend Wood Wind Golf Club in Westfield, Indiana. When you’re done playing be sure to submit your course feedback through our site as well.
